This morning I was revelling in the pleasure of being able to have my front and back doors open while I swept the kitchen floor. It is one of my great pleasures during good weather – being able to look out at the beautiful willow tree in our back yard and to hear the wind rustle through its leaves. Sweeping isn’t really a great pleasure but I do enjoy the end result of a clean floor.
The house was quiet except for the
sound of the broom bristles on the kitchen tile and then I heard something that
made me look up. It took a moment for me
to recognize the sound; it was the limbs of the willow tree squeaking when they
rubbed together as the wind blew. I
immediately wondered – do I squeak when the wind of the Holy Spirit blows
through my life? Is there any evidence
that I have been affected by it?
I have many favourite hymns and
one of them is Take My Life And Let It Be.
Some of the words are...
Take
my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise.
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise.
Take
my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
Take
my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.
Filled with messages from Thee.
I want this to be a reality for me
and sometimes it is but I want it to be more common-place in my life. I want to squeak on a regular basis and I
know this means that I need to be willing to allow the Spirit to move in my
life and then respond each time.
As you ponder this thought, I
invite you to listen to the song “Speak Lord To Me” by Hiram
Joseph. Make it your prayer each day.
